Navigating multiple transitions at once
II’m deeply fascinated by life transitions. Every change of path, career, role, place, relationship or stage of life requires us to bridge a gap between what was and what’s to come.
Every ending has a new beginning already within it, but we don’t always know or feel that to be true when something has ended and we’re grappling with all that comes with letting go of past roles and versions of ourselves.
How do we bridge an old way of being and doing things into a new, not yet known, way?
How do we let go of the past and find the courage to sit in a space of unknown possibility when there’s no map for what’s next and the world’s in so much turmoil?
Maybe you too have outgrown roles and past identities and barely recognise yourself …
Maybe your usually effective ways of planning and setting goals for the future aren’t working …
Maybe your deeper knowing is overcome by so much noise and collective fear, you can’t easily hear yourself anymore.
Reconnecting to your body’s wisdom
When you’re in transition, being able to reconnect to your body’s wisdom - to tune out noise and distractions - is an essential skill to cultivate.
I know this because this has been my deep work and path too. Recently, I’ve been in an extended transition, partly triggered from turning 50, the long peri-menopause transition and changes in roles at home and work.
Whilst my outer life has been full and busy, internally I shifted into unfamiliar territory for a good 18 months. It was a bit like being in a pressure-less vacuum with no sound or sense of time.
I found no markers for getting out quickly. It felt dark and spacious, and at times emotional, but I knew I couldn’t push forward and out of this phase of the transition with my mind. So I practised trusting myself, life and my body’s timing.
When we’re deep in transition, it’s hard to explain or articulate to others what’s going on. We need to dig deep to trust that we’re going to be ok, that there’s some internal rearranging happening and things will work themselves out.
We may find our usual tools that help us, ie journalling, meditation, catching up with certain people, don’t resonate for a period of time. We may need alot more space and time alone than usual.
At some point, things shift, new ideas drop in, opportunities show up and life moves forward again.
For me, what was so helpful during this transition was having wise mentors to reach out to, to have space held for me to drop deeply into my body and psyche, and in that process to gradually shift out of exhausting old patterns and ways of being and gradually choose a new way of being and choices, from the inside out.
We’re not meant to do this life alone, and that includes our healing.
I strongly believe we all need wise spaces, mentors and guides to support us to process, digest and debrief the challenges, transitions and growth points that come up, as and when we need it. People who know we’re not broken, and don’t see us as a problem to be fixed, but where we can feel safe to show up as our messy, vulnerable selves and through that connection, we’re reminded again who we are, and what’s possible.
That’s why I provide a unique psycho-spiritual service for women who are courageously doing their inner work to evolve because they know they have important gifts to share and contributions to make. They too are also looking for new ways of being and doing life.
That may look like reaching out for support to process what’s coming up as you navigate a transition or a challenging time with a Root Cause Session.
Or maybe you’re in the helping profession and are wanting support to “refill your bucket” and a wise soulful place to debrief, digest, reflect and grow from your work with clients in a 1:1 Practitioner Support.
The transition points in our lives are inviting us to grow and adapt in new creative and more connected ways.
